Dear Property Owner:
Important Notice
There are 3 Bills in the Legislature that will increase the homestead exemption. Please let your voice be heard concerning this very important issue. You should contact Governor Jindal and all Representatives and Senators in Louisiana. Let them know what your position is on the homestead exemption changes being proposed.
You may visit the Louisiana Legislative website at http://house.louisiana.gov/H_Reps/H_Reps_FullInfo.asp to obtain the names and phone numbers of all Representatives. To obtain the Senators' names and phone numbers, please go to http://senate.legis.state.la.us/Senators/offices.asp .
On November 13, 2008, the St. Tammany Parish Assessor’s Office contacted the Louisiana Tax Commission and requested a 30-day extension to file the 2008 St. Tammany Parish tax roll. An extension until December 15, 2008 was granted by the Louisiana Tax Commission on November 18, 2008.
The 2008 tax roll will be delivered to the Louisiana Tax Commission on or before December 15, 2008. Upon certification, the tax roll will be delivered to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff and Ex-Officio Tax Collector for collection. This could cause as much as a 30-day delay in the delivery of the tax bills.
The reason for this extension was that there were over 15,000 reviews filed with our office during the exposure period held from October 2nd through October 16, 2008. In addition, there were over 2000 appeals filed with the Parish Council, sitting as Board of Review. The Board of Review list of appeals was not provided to the Assessor as it has been in previous years. The final appeal rulings made by the Board of Review were not delivered to our office until November 20, 2008. These appeal rulings should have been provided earlier by the Board of Review (Parish Council).
Our door is always open. After receiving your tax notice, if you feel the value on your property is incorrect, please contact our office. We are here to serve you fairly and efficiently.
Taxing Bodies Public Meeting
All taxing bodies that have advertised to hold a public meeting in August and September to consider increasing millage rates to the maximum will reschedule their public meetings in November. Please visit this website for dates and times of the rescheduled meetings.

If you have not yet filed for homestead exemption, it is important that you file now. You only have to file once.
It has always been my belief that the property owner has every right to know how an agency that affects him functions. As your Assessor, I prepared this web site as a public service to assist you, the St. Tammany Parish property owner, with the most commonly asked questions and a brief overview of the duties and responsibilities of your Assessor's Office. I ask, in return, if you find errors or inequities in the information provided, that you report them to my office. Should you ever need or want additional information concerning your property taxes or the laws governing them, please give us a call. My staff and I are committed to serving you as fairly and efficiently as possible.
The information available on this website is for the 2001 through 2008 tax years.
Sincerely
